Savory Tahini Sauce

4.0.1

As the days warm, all sorts of new produce arrives in stores. Here is a delicious, simple sauce and dip for enjoying those raw or stir-fry vegetables.   A wonderful alternative to the typical pre-made dips full of cheap ingredients and chemicals that you might find at a Memorial Day gathering.  A delightful alternative to the same old, processed Ranch dressing. Enjoy!

Savory Tahini Sauce

  • 1/2 cup tahini (this is sesame seed butter; find it in the ethnic foods aisle) – a fabulous non-dairy source of calcium by the way
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice (preferably fresh-squeezed: it will taste *much* better than bottled)
  • 2 Tbsp natural soy sauce (e.g. shoyu or tamari)
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup
  • 1-2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • pinch of cayenne (to your taste)

In a bowl briskly whisk together the tahini and water until combined. It will look separated at first: just keep whisking! Add remaining ingredients and whisk until combined. Salt and pepper to taste. Keeps in the fridge for up to a week. Delicious atop sautéed greens like kale or a whole grain side dish like quinoa.
